    Don’t get shipwrecked on a remote tropical island without first knowing how to make your own snazzy palm frond hat.     Shop and mingle in the Bazaar as it is open almost all day on Saturday. Catch a little sun at the Rum Island Pool Party and then come to the bazaar and find that perfect vintage aloha shirt or dress you’ve been looking for.

    While you shop you can stop by any of the bars hosted by our sponsors in the Atrium and help yourself to a libation.

    More hours! More bars! And your admission and sample cocktails are included with your weekend pass. We’ve designed the pool party this year so you can sample some cocktails, catch some rays, shop at the Tiki Treasures Bazaar, listen to a symposium, and come BACK out to the pool for more fun and sun. Feel free to drop in anytime during the six-hour party. While there, enjoy a cocktail from one of eight special guest bars from across the United States: Three Dots & A Dash, Pagan Idol, Hidden Harbor, Slowly Shirley, Sip N Dip Motor Lodge, UnderTow, SOS, and Flask & Cannon.

    The Mai-Kai – Untold Stories with Swanky

    Mai-Kai author and historian Tim “Swanky” Glazner has assembled an amazing group of current and former Mai-Kai employees for this symposium. Tim will lead us in a panel discussion as we hear the real history from the people who lived it. Tim’s amazing book on the Mai-Kai comes to life in this once in a lifetime chance to hear some of the greatest stories from the 60 years of the Mai-Kai.

    The History of Rum in 10 Cocktails – Ian Burrell

    Who says history is boring? Join global rum ambassador Ian Burrell as he takes us through the history of rum through the lens of 10 classic cocktails. We never seem to get tired of drinking rum, and you’ll appreciate it even more after Ian’s presentation. A 5-time nominee for brand ambassador of the year, Ian’s depth of knowledge is unmatched. And just to make sure everyone is paying attention, The Hukilau bar crew will be serving up cocktails during “history” class.

    Black Velvet in Paradise – Ron Ferrell

    Black Velvets In Paradise - Of course black velvet paintings are more than just Elvis and the Virgin Mary. Join us as Ron Ferrell takes us through a visual history of painting Polynesia on black velvet, and its’ introduction in to Tiki bars. In addition to the early styles of black velvet paintings, Ron will highlight contemporary artists like Al Evans and Woody Miller. There will also be a special surprise from this year’s Hukilau featured artist Tony Miller.

    Carve Your Own Pendant with Will Anders

    Where did you get that pendant? You made it right here under the guidance and direction of carver Will Anders. Will has an amazing ability to take his knowledge and skill as an artist and teach other people how to create their own art.     Ahoy shipmates! Take a look back at the heyday of Polynesian Pop Culture and how it was influenced by the spirit of adventure of sailing the high seas and exploring the South Pacific on a raft, schooner or the HMS Bounty. Journey with us now, just as our fore fathers did in the days of wooden ships and iron men. Mike Skinner, noted tiki researcher, historian, and presenter will share his research and knowledge with us on this integral part of tiki history. Listen to Mike’s presentation and you won’t be able to get back to the Molokai bar soon enough.

    Curious what a $200 bottle of rum tastes like? Here is your chance to find out. Join Ian Burrell, Global Rum Ambassador, as he guides you through a tasting of 6 different rums. The rums have been selected to highlight differences in taste and style, and includes rums from Mount Gay, Barbancourt, Don Q, Appleton, Clement, and Diplomatico. Included in those are two rums that retail for over $200 a bottle. You get to sample top rums without having to mortgage your home, but more importantly, Ian will explain why you pay a premium for these types of rums, and what makes an expensive rum worth the money (or not).
